Dev Patel Quotes
On staying connected
I have a Blackberry which I use, but I am one of those people who can only type on it with one hand.
I don’t have a Facebook or Twitter account.
Dev Patel quotes on his career
Television moves fast, and you don’t have the indulgences you have when you’re shooting movies of so many takes because there are tight deadlines.
I don’t think I have the pulling power of Jim Carrey.
Training in taekwondo for eight years and then being able to do it in a film was pretty amazing.
But I’m tone deaf – window-shattering tone-deaf. I can’t sing for the life of me. I can’t sing or dance, so no remake of ‘Grease’ for me!
Dev’s thoughts on love and romance
I have this theory that a relationship is a kind of like a rocket, and you’re trying to get it into space. And all you need is enough fuel to get you out of Earth’s atmosphere, and then it will keep going, no matter what you throw at it in the direction it was launched.
The thing is, I am a loving person. I am super sappy when it comes to romance. But I’m not the Antonio Banderas, swashbuckling, Pierce Brosnan, smooth-talking type.
I’m not a Casanova in ‘The Newsroom,’ by the way — just another hard worker.
Dev’s connection to India
Yeah, my family is of Indian heritage.
I visit India a lot.
‘Slumdog’ was my first movie, and I had never been to India before – I was just a teenager in the U.K. with my headphones and my Nike shoes. What did I know about growing up in a slum?
Quotes on fame and celebrity
The dark side is when you are with family and friends, and you have paparazzi screaming at you — that’s been hard to deal with.
I’ve grown up watching these people on TV, then when you’re finally there on the red carpet and meet these people, and they know who you are – it’s crazy. I’m going to take my autograph book to the Oscars.
I had no chance. It was ridiculous. But just to share the same space as these people – I mean, wow!
I met Mickey Rourke in the toilet at the BAFTAS. It was Mickey having a wee. I shook his hand.
On meeting Angelina Jolie
She’s stunning. You have to take a step back when you see her in real life. There’s a picture in one of the Los Angeles newspapers where she’s talking to me, and I’m just looking at her. I just stared in amazement.
On Frieda Pinto
She told me after our first audition that she felt like a bit of a pedophile because we had to do this love scene, and she was like 23, and I was 17 at the time. So it was pretty weird for her.
She never does (have an off day). She’s like one of those waxworks at Madame Tussauds. Flawless.
I met amazing people. Bright, funny, caring. But none of them was her.
Dev Patel: The next Bond?

Quotes about Dev Patel
Working with Dev was the best thing that could have happened to me. We were both in the same situation. We would give and take and help each other out. When I’d get stuck, he’d help me. When he’d get stuck, I’d help him.
– Frieda Pinto
Dev’s one of my best friends. He’s sweet, funny, and smart. He understands me so well that if I say five words to Dev, he understands the 50 words that follow. He makes it easy and less tiring.
– Frieda Pinto
(on using Skype) We use it a lot—and we hate it as well. It’s like a tease. I also feel it’s this pressure: ‘Oh my god, he’s seeing me after two weeks—I hope my hair is OK.’ It’s just hideous. I think even the most beautiful person looks stupid on Skype.
